Pantone Color of the Year 2023: Viva Magenta
Back again for another color of the year!
I’m color obsessed and am always so excited to see what Pantone holds in store for me! With over 15,000 colors to choose from it’s always interesting to see what color gets chosen as Pantone’s Color of the Year!
If it’s a color I like, there’s a good chance I’ll be able to find any fashion and home decor item I could possibly want in that color that year.
2022’s color was Very Peri & I LOVED it. I found so many beautiful pieces all year long in this gorgeous shade of periwinkle. A throw for my couch, a purse, a headband, nail colors, a pair of shoes. It was a color I felt was fresh and interesting and mixed & matched with so many colors I already utilize.
On the flip side, I wasn’t feeling Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2020/2021.
2020: Classic Blue. Blah. Just not for me.
2021: Illuminating (shade of yellow) & Ultimate Grey. 2 colors, also not for me.
I don’t look particularly stunning in any of those 3 colors (she’s so vain!).
But, moving onto the good stuff: Let’s introduce Pantone’s Color of the Year 2023. It’s a good one and I am really excited!
Without further ado, 2023’s Pantone Color of the Year is Viva Magenta!
What is Pantone?
Pantone is the world’s leading color consistency company. Every shade has a swatch/number/name that can be utilized to make sure that everyone is speaking the same “color language”. This is huge in fashion and design so the color matches no matter the company you’re using or medium (digital, print, fabric etc). It’s basically color standardization and expertise.
Color of the Year
Pantone has color experts who analyze trends and look around the world for inspiration. Their trend analysis can be influenced by/influence a wide variety of factors such as film, art, fashion, travel, design, technology, & sports.
Pantone has announced a Color of the Year for 24 years now!

Does Viva Magenta fit your color palette?
Viva Magenta feels rich and new. It’s invigorating and assertive. Pantone referred to the “magenta-verse” which I just loved. I can see this color translating into a very wide variety of day-to-day items. I also can see similar colors being highlighted by brands all years ranging from pinks, and reds, into purples.
With a name like VIVA what’s not to love?
Viva Magenta is a bold color that is full of life. A personal goal of mine this year is work life balance. I want to get out and LIVE my life. I want to travel and do things that feel like me. I want to get into healthy routines that streamline the tasks in my life and open up more time and space for living and exploring. A bold color like this aligns with my goals for the year and I know I’ll be finding magenta items all year long to elevate my personal sense of style and self!
