Barbiecore

Barbiecore was something that I saw pop up in 2022 and I think will carry into 2023. Essentially, Barbiecore is exactly what it sounds like: Barbie & her EVERYTHING hot pink & girly aesthetic.

When I was little, I had a giant lifesized Barbie-we’re talking toddler sized. She had jewelry and shoes and clothes that I loved dressing her as well as myself in. I had a zillion Barbies and loved dressing them all up for their cool career that they had. I envisioned my life as an adult dressing up every day, living in my dreamhouse, going off to my cool job, and living this amazing life I made.

I do live in my little dreamhome, and have an amazing job, and a closet and accessory collection to boot. Not saying it’s all thanks to Barbie but she probably deserves a little shoutout! I’m not 100% on board with the head to toe pink but I definitely can get behind adding some of it to my life-although maybe more in my closet and less in my home or Zack would go crazy!

Take a look at all the Barbiecore inspo below and I hope you love it even half as much as I do

Adding to the Barbie resurgence is the new Barbie movie set to come out in July 2023 that is directed by Greta Gerwig and starring the ever-stunning Margot Robbie, Will Ferrell, & Ryan Gosling.

Mattel owns an official Pantone Barbie color.

Its PMS 219. What’s more iconic than getting your own color?!

Valentino released their Pink PP collection with Zendaya all over the campaign. They said “pink is possibility, power, and freedom”. Valentino collaborated with Pantone and also had their own signature color made. It is definitely giving Barbie vibes!

Another designer/collection that Barbie has influenced was Moschino’s designer Jeremy Scott (also a judge in Amazon’s Making the Cut!). He created a Barbie Spring/Summer 2015 collection and referred to her as the ultimate muse because she’s worn every fashion design imaginable all while having every career possible as well.

This post had to mention Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. Legally Blonde is a pop-culture movie that has a Broadway musical and soon to be a third movie! It is essentially Barbie goes to law school and takes on the world dressed head to toe in pink.

Andy Warhol famously painted American icons-including Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, & Jackie Kennedy. He also painted iconic items such as Campbell soup cans and Coke bottles. He painted this version of Barbie with her big blonde hair and blue eyes with pink outlines and a blue background.

How To Wear Barbiecore as a Normal Person

This trend can look like intense and overly girly. You don’t need to be a Barbie lover and pink obsessed individual to add this into your wardrobe.

Pair Hot Pink with Neutrals

I love wearing black and white with a hot pink item as a color pop. The very first Barbie (1959!) had a blonde ponytail and powder blue eyeshadow and wore a black and white striped swimsuit, sunglasses and heels. A whole vibe of her own.

There’s a whole color palette there: Black + White + Powder Blue + Hot Pink.

Accessories & Nails

You can wear this trend without going all in. I have a pair of pink suede shoes and a hot pink purse and both give off Barbie without being head to toe. I also love a good hot pink nail. Headbands and scrunchies would work

Color Variations and Colors to Pair with Barbie Pink

You can wear something pink but not HOT pink and still give off the vibe. A slightly more muted pink or a blush are feminine but a little quieter if Barbie pink is a little too loud for your personal style. I do think Barbie pink looks good on all skin tones and can be integrated into any wardrobe even if just in small doses!

I love hot pink paired with turquoise. I think the two colors play off of each other nicely. They are complementary colors on the color wheel (across from each other). A turquoise purse, hot pink shoes, light jeans and a neutral-colored top is an outfit I have worn many variations of!
